UPDATE:
A reception honoring Jane will be held on May 16 following the 11 a.m. service. We hope you will join in on the celebration that day. Additionally, the Board of Stewards has authorized a love offering to be taken in gratefulness for Jane’s 32 years of service with the church. If you would like to participate in the love offering for Jane, please make your check donation payable to AHUMC with a “STAFF APPRECIATION” note on the memo line, or if you desire to give electronically, please put “STAFF APPRECIATION” on the notation line of your online gift.
During the month of May, we will be collecting letters of appreciation for Jane. Through Jane’s leadership, the Weekday School has greatly impacted the lives of many of our children and grandchildren. We invite you to write her a note, and even better, include a picture or two of the children whose lives she has shaped. The letter box will be at the reception desk in the atrium.
SARAH JERNIGAN JOINS THE AHUMC WEEKDAY STAFF
We are delighted to announce that Sarah has accepted the role of Weekday School Director. She will join our staff in late April. Sarah has been a member of our church for over 20 years. Sarah is married to Michael and has four children: Makayla, Allison, Gavin, and Harper. She and her family are very active in worship and all children and youth programs.
You will probably recognize Sarah as she has been one of our faithful volunteers making children’s time videos during the pandemic. Sarah is an expert in Early Childhood Education and will continue the strong Christian leadership that is a hallmark of our school.
JANE MOWREY RETIRING AFTER 32 YEARS OF SERVICE
Our dear Jane is retiring at the end of this school year. Jane started working with the Weekday school when the church was on Broadway. At that time, the school operated three days a week and was primarily a Mother’s Day Out program. Through Jane’s leadership, the school has grown to a 5-day preschool program serving children from infants through Pre-K. The beauty of the AHUMC Weekday School is that Jesus is at the center of its philosophy and values. The children start their school day with chapel singing songs, hearing bible stories, and saying prayers—all led by Miss Jane.
Throughout the years, Jane has been the central Christian leader for the school’s children, parents, and teachers. Jane has also been an active member of AHUMC for more than 30 years. You can find her Sundays singing in the sanctuary choir. Jane has been instrumental in introducing many families to our church’s wonderful worship activities and children’s Sunday school programs.
On May 16, we will celebrate Jane’s faithful years of service with a reception after the 11 a.m. service. Please watch this newsletter for more details as the event draws closer.
